Cider Press Story
When the Boy
Scout troop Kevin volunteers with had the opportunity to utilize an apple
orchard, they started looking for ways to make apple cider.
Techniques envisioned included garbage disposals, bearing presses, food
processors and coffee cans. Yet after
numerous home-made contraptions were experimented with, it became apparent
that a full-sized dedicated press was the only satisfactory answer.
The problem was that apple presses were hard to find in Southern
California. They considered trying to make the press machine
components such as the grinder and screw, but one look at the components
from Happy Valley Ranch convinced them that they were far superior than
anything they could fabricate.
Kevin combined his woodworking expertise and the machine components to
produce what we humbly consider a superior design. This design is
explained in simple terms and thoroughly illustrated in order to enable
the home craftsman to create a family heirloom.
