The granite countertop fabricator sent us to a stone yard to pick out
our slabs. There were hundreds to choose from, but we were able to
pick one, and they put our name on it for when the fabricator comes to
pick it up.

The installers showed up with our countertops on their trailer.
The granite is set in place with water-based construction adhesive.
Horseshoe-shaped plastic shims fill in the low spots and support the
counter until the adhesive sets up. |
 |
| The fireplace used almost as much stone as the countertops
did, and the guys made 7 separate pieces look like one piece. |
 |
| I guess I can't use the kitchen island as a workbench
anymore...

| January 31st we took a bath, got into our PJ's, and went to
bed, IN OUR HOUSE!! It had been one year, five months since we slept
in a real bed. Having your stuff packed away that long is also kind
of fun, as it's like Christmas opening up boxes and finding stuff you
forgot you had (and also some junk you should have got rid of) |
