Aren't Apple Trees Hard to Grow?

Apples are the easiest orchard crop to grow in Southern California.  Our warm dry climate and isolation from other apple growing areas eliminate most of the problems the rest of the country faces in trying to grow apples.  Look at the benefits of growing them here:

-No frost or hardiness problems, no frigid drying winds

-Little or no fungal or bacterial disease that thrive in damp climates

-No deer problems

-No hail or storm damage

-No soggy ground drowning the roots

-Our season is long enough to ripen even the latest apples

If you were trying to grow apples organically, inland Southern California would be the ideal place to do it, as you really do not have to spray, which is unheard of back east.

Apple trees are self-sufficient and if they get water they will live for many years.  Giving them care will increase the size and quality of your harvest and prolong the tree's life, but many an apple tree is growing neglected in back yards producing every year.  Even if you have a brown thumb, you will be able to grow apples, and we'll show you how.
