Can I Save My Old Apple Tree?

An old timer apple tree like the one on the right is truly a gem, but undoing years of neglect is not always doable.  We'll show you the proper pruning to prolong it's life, and it may live another 50 years or it may keel over this winter.

Revitalizing it cannot be done all at once, but should be spread out over several years.  By this time you could have grafted cuttings onto a new rootstock and be harvesting apples already.

If the tree has nostalgia value and you want to try to save it, it is still best to graft a few cuttings just in case it dies in the process of renovation.
